🚀 Join the FSAI Web Dev & AI Racing Team

Hey folks! Thinking of joining something awesome at Uni? If you’re studying Computer Science or Engineering, FSAI is a killer opportunity. Here’s a quick guide to what the Web Dev & FSAI teams do, what tech you’ll be using, and how to sign up.

đźš— What is FSAI & what are we working on?

[FSAI = Bristol Formula Student AI] is the autonomous racing project at the University of Bristol. It's all about perception, planning, controls, and systems integration—everything needed to get a driverless car around a track.

The Web Dev Team is one of the sub-teams within FSAI. They handle the team’s website & public presence (what people see).

Other teams you can join include:

  • Perception → Computer vision, object detection, stereo cameras.
  • Planning & Control → Path planning, trajectory generation, vehicle control systems.
  • System Integration → Integrate the perception and planning & control subsystems.
  • Statics → Simulator development, communications, presentations, making sure the team shines at competitions.

🔧 Tech & skills you’ll use / pick up

If you join us, here’s what you’ll probably use and learn:

AreaTechnologies / Skills
Web developmentNext.js, TypeScript, TailwindCSS, Markdown
PerceptionPython, Ultralytics, OpenCV, ROS2, Python scripting
Planning & ControlC++, ROS2, Maths
Systems integrationROS2, Shell scripting, Software testing
Simulator development (static)IPG CarMaker

Join our new subteam

We are planning on establishing a new SLAM subteam to work alongside the Perception and P&C teams. If you have any experience in SLAM or C++, feel free to join us as a team member or nominate yourself as a team lead in the EGM this October.

How to enroll / get involved

  • For Web Dev: Send an email 📧 to Tom or Matvii and tell us about yourself. If you’ve got a GitHub repo, side project, or even some basic HTML/JS or Python to show, that’s perfect!

  • For other sub-teams: Just attend the workshops or recruitment events we run early in term. That’s your entry point to meet the team leads and get involved directly. No formal application needed—just curiosity and willingness to learn.
